Amitabh Bachchan is losing followers (1)

Amitabh Bachchan is losing followers and he is very, very upset.

Let’s be honest. No one likes losing followers on social media. Especially when it comes at a cost of losing the top spot of the most followed actor in India.

So when veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan saw a considerable decline in his followers’ list on microblogging site Twitter, the actor jokingly “threatened” to quit the site. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan has sneaked into the top of the top most followed actor list.

A very angry Big B wrote,  “T 2599 – TWITTER ..!!! you reduced my number of followers .. !!??HAHAHAHAHAHAHA .. !! that’s a joke .. time to get off from you .. thank you for the ride .. .. there are many ‘other’ fish in the sea – and a lot more exciting. (sic)”

There could be several reasons behind losing followers on Twitter. While it is hard to really get to the root cause, the reasons could include: 1) Being inactive. (BigB is quite active) 2) Your tweet simply sucks. 3) Twitter doing a clean up of your fake followers, aka bots. We all know BigB’s obsession with posting on the microblogging site. Come on, look at his dedication.

Could it be because of BigB’s tweets that is driving away his fans? For starters, he uploads his photographs in almost everything he shares. Even when it’s not about him.

But if his followers have survived all these years, why would they unfollow him now? That brings us to the next cause. Is Twitter doing a clean up of fake followers or bots (which aren’t necessarily bought)?

A quick search on Social Blade — a website that compiles data from social media accounts and makes graphs to track your progress and growth– shows Big B lost around 65,000 on Tuesday and over a lakh followers on Wednesday, a total of 167467 followers in a couple of days.

Interestingly, other top Indian actors such as SRK, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, haven’t lost any followers in the last couple of days.

Twiiter Audit (1)

Twitter Audit, a site that basically gives a rough idea of fake followers of an account, gave us these disturbing results. (Note: the site itself notes that the results may not be accurate but it still gives you an estimate based on the number of tweets, date of the last tweet, and the ratio of followers to friends.)

We are not sure what the exact reason is. But Twitter, please don’t make the angry young man more angry.
