Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree had a “superb” start at the box office as it managed to collect Rs. 6.82 crore on its opening day, reports Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The horror-comedy about a female ghost who visits the town of Chanderi during the festival season and targets men seems to getting good word of mouth, which is translating into box office numbers.
Stree’s day 1 box office collection has been Rs 6.82 crore in the domestic circuit.
As famous trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and wrote, “When numbers do the talking… #Stree surpasses the expectations and estimations and posts a SUPERB number on Day 1… Biz is expected to multiply over the weekend… Fri 6.82 cr. India biz… Hugely positive word of mouth has translated into BO numbers.”
According to Box Office India, Stree’s opening is the 12th highest of 2018 and is in the range of films such as Sonu Ki Tito Ki Sweety, Fukrey Returns and Raazi.
It is loosely based on an urban legend from Bengaluru — in 1990s, a witch haunted Bengaluru and its residents for years and her legend is still famous in several areas around the city.
Stree takes a bigger start than the bigger-in-cast Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se. Proves, phir se [yet again], Fridays can be so unpredictable!”
