Earlier during the day, doctors at the local hospital had referred Sana to Patna due to swelling on her facial area.

Sana, the three-year-old girl who had fallen into a 165-foot-deep borewell, was rescued last night after a 30-hour long operation in Bihar’s Munger district. She had fallen into the shaft and got stuck at a spot around 45 feet below the surface at around 4 pm on Tuesday. She was rescued by a team of personnel from National and State Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

Sana was taken out, smeared in mud, at 9.45 pm on Wednesday, Munger Superintendent of Police Gaurav Mangla said.

The girl parents Nachiketa Sao and Sudha Devi had said that the girl fell into the borewell when she was playing around the house.

An ambulance was waiting at the spot to rush the girl to the nearest hospital after the rescue operation concludes. Earlier during the day, doctors at the local hospital had referred Sana to Patna due to swelling on her facial area. They said that her condition is fine and she is responding well to the treatment. But she vomited twice, once in the middle of the night and in the morning.Further decision on shifting her to Patna will be taken once her CT scan report is received.

To augment the efforts of SDRF, a small team of NDRF was airlifted to Murgiachak area under Kotwali police station in District Munger from NDRF base in Bihar, Patna.

In addition, one more team was also mobilised from NDRF Base in Patna to Munger by road to assist SDRF in rescue operation.

The brave 3-year-old responded and followed all the instructions carefully given by the rescuers. All out efforts were made to reach out to the victim.

“We sent our team by the state government’s helicopter. They did primarily two things. First, they helped the girl’s mother talk to the girl inside with the help of a device. Second, a horizontal axis was carved into the trench so that the girl could be pulled out safely,” Commandant, 9th Battalion NDRF Vijay Sinha said.

As it began to drizzle in the evening, tarpaulin sheets were placed above the trench to prevent water from seeping as it could have jeopardised the rescue operation.

After the rescue operations concluded, BJP President Amit Shah congratulated the disaster response team in Bihar for pulling out the three-year-old girl from the borewell in Munger.
